What is Paired Brewing Challenge: Each Year, Red Earth Brewers organizes and hosts a brewing challenge for it's members. The spirit of this challenge is to garner camaraderie, delve into the nuances of brew day, and connect with industry professionals.
Our Paired Brewing Challenge is a fantastic opportunity for brewers of all skill levels to team up. Whether you're a seasoned pro or a complete beginner, pairing up can be incredibly rewarding. You’ll gain new insights, learn different brewing techniques, and exchange ideas. When tasting day arrives, you’ll get to share and enjoy the fruits of everyone’s hard work.
The Challenge also offers a platform for in-depth discussions about your brews. Each team has about 15 minutes to geek out on their recipes, share insights, and explore stylistic details.
One of Red Earth Brewers goals is to foster relationships with those in the Oklahoma Craft brewing industry, whether it be a brew shop, a brewery, another club, or a charitable organization. Paired Brewing provides an opportunity to host different events like selection day, tasting day, competition entries, and event pouring offerings.
So you can see why this one program can do SO much for our goals as a club. So if you are interested in participating, become a member of REB and keep an eye out for the next Paired Brewing Challenge.
The 2024 Paired Brewing Challenge: First to gold at this years F.O.A.M. Cup Competition and the winner gets a scale up with Skydance Brewing Co, here in vibrant OKC!
This year, teams will be randomly selected on Aug 31 at Skydance in the Eagle’s Nest, and while we’re there we can enjoy the release of Switzer Lager!
The pairs will choose a style to brew, but the recipe must come from the AHA website from the NHC medaling recipes.
Each team will brew on their own schedule, but we’ll have a tasting day about a month later, location TBD. Then, entries will be submitted to the FOAM Cup competition in November. If you’re on the fence about competing, this is a great opportunity to compete in a really good High Plains Circuit competition and help us bring the FOAM Cup home to OKC again.
Rules:
· Teams will be chosen randomly but will take experience into account in groupings.
· Recipes will be chosen from the AHA website NHC medal winner recipe list.
· Recipes must be followed exactly, unless something isn’t specified (mash length, temps, even yeast), in which case you can improvise.
· Water chemistry and fermentation style and schedule are up to you.
· Choose your recipe and brew on your own schedule, but be prepared for the tastings in October and FOAM cup.
How do you win the scale up? The winning recipe will be
1. The highest FOAM Cup BOS placing entry, or
2. If there’s only one gold awarded, or
3. If no golds or multiple golds, all medal winners go to Skydance for a tasting and selection of the winner.
Good Luck to all who participate!!
